Yorkshire Tories threaten UDI

The Daily Mirror claims:
Shocked David Cameron was given a mauling by angry grassroots Tories in Yorkshire - who have warned they will form their own breakaway northern party if he does not shape up.
Cameron is said to have been so shaken by the ferocity of the verbal assaults during the get-together with local activists that he could not finish his lunch.
Even allowing for the Mirror's bias - in its way it is every bit as partisan as the pro-Tory papers - this suggests that Cameron is in serious trouble.

If David Cameron's strategy of repositioning the Tories on the centre ground is going to work, it will probably take him two general elections. The hard thing will be to avoid being dumped after he loses the first of them.

This report, like many recent reports on the mood within the Tories, suggests that there are many members who would be only too happy to force him out in those circumstances.

Still, the Yorkshire Tories could follow the example of their Scottish brethren and call their breakaway party the Unionist Party.

Thanks to Peter Black.
