Adil Rashid's 2007 season

It is some time since we caught up with the great hope of English cricket, the young Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid.

According to the Yorkshire Post:
Rashid took 40 Championship wickets this year at 39.45, and although not quite the force he was with the ball in 2006, his batting will have attracted the eye of the selectors, with his record this summer reading 790 Championship runs at 46.47.
The same article quoted his county captain Darren Gough:
Gough revealed Yorkshire might promote Rashid in the batting order next season, saying: "He's a quality batsman who could play in the Yorkshire team solely as a batsman, and we might play him at No 6 next summer with Gerard Brophy at No 7."

Since making his first-class debut against Warwickshire at Scarborough in July 2006, Rashid has taken 69 wickets in 23 first-class matches at 36.43 and scored 961 runs at 38.44.

He hit his maiden Championship hundred against Worcestershire last month and has just signed a new two-year contract extension, which will keep him at Yorkshire until at least the end of 2010.

Rashid's summer was capped when he was named the Cricket Writers' Club's Young Cricketer of the Year, one of the game's most prestigious awards.
