Fewer five-year-olds are letting the government down

Is it just me or is this barking mad?

From the Guardian:
The proportion of five-year-olds who showed the expected levels of being motivated to learn, as well as knowing about their own culture and other peoples' beliefs rose 1%.

Hmmm, at 5 I still believed in the easter bunny and Father Christmas. I knew for a fact that God existed because my parents said so. Fortunately everyone just let me get on with making rose-petal tea in the garden for the resident fairies.
