Leicester City Council plans to get rid off the Bowstring Bridge with unseemly haste. The feeling that it regards the city's industrial past as a dirty secret is hard to resist.
According to the Leicester Mercury yesterday, demolition is planned to begin on 21 September:
The only obstacle left is an application made by Leicester Civic Society to have the bridge listed, which would block the demolition. A decision on that is imminent. The photograph shows the neighbouring Pump and Tap pub, which is scheduled for demolition by De Monfort University.
