Nick Clegg was in Leicestershire yesterday. After his visit to Hinckley, Matthew Hulbert and his fellow local Liberal Democrats "left the meeting feeling cheered, invigorated and ready for the political fight ahead".

Elsewhere in the county, reports Mark Pack, Martin Cartwright, councillor for Groby, has left the Conservative Party and joined the ruling Liberal Democrat group on Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council. Groby, incidentally, is pronounced "Grooby" and featured on Time Team a couple of weeks ago.

"The Olympic ticket system is a disaster, biased in favour of the rich. The small print means that many richer people will end up going to more events than they want to, and that many poorer people won’t be able to attend at all," argues Tim Leunig on Centre:Forum Blog.
